We bring leading

Africa’s Forum on Climate Change Energy and Development (AFCCED)

We create a forum that  brings leading African committed policy makers, scholars, practitioners and thought-leaders on climate change, environment, energy, and development issues together and provide them the platform to play a central role in elaborating the African narrative and driving Africa’s structural transformation towards a more climate compatible sustainable development future.

The Context

Climate change and energy poverty are some of the most critical challenges facing Africa today, and how these two issues are addressed will go a long way in defining the development future of the African continent.  However, for far too long, the voice of Africa has been relatively muted on these two critical issues where it should loudly hear.  Africa has several individuals who are well recognised authorities in the area of climate change, environment, energy and development, but somehow,  a distinct African voice is missing from the global energy transition debate.

Objectives

The forum has the following objectives

To provide a space where the leading African thinkers on the issue of development, energy and climate in the context of sustainability will meet regularly to bounce ideas on how to address these challenges in Africa for its structural transformation toward a more sustainable future.
To organise dialogues with other actors that are deemed relevant for tackling the climate and energy challenges in the context of the continent development.
To pursue joint publications, reports, and other outputs that will help to articulate and address the climate and energy challenges in Africa.
To undertake projects that will help to address the climate and energy challenges in Africa.
To train, organise and mentor a critical mass of younger researchers who will lead locally relevant and high-quality research to influence policy and practice in the area of climate change, energy and development in Africa,
